Are anarchists taken seriously by academia?

My lecturer mentioned anarchists and said "What did Marx think about anarchists?". Rather than stay silent as he seemed to want me to be, I braved the bullets and quoted Marx's opinions on anarchists ("schoolboy stupidity" and the like). I could tell he wanted a succinct dismissal of the whole group, but I wouldn't give him one, because I prefer giving reasons to obeying unwritten rules.
